Logistics

Hawaiian Electric Beach Park is located on the southwest coast of Oahu, about a 45-minute drive from Waikiki. It is accessible from Farrington Highway.

Parking: On-site parking is available at Kahe Point Beach Park. While there is typically enough free parking, it can get crowded, especially on weekends and holidays. It's advised to arrive early, ideally by 8 AM, for better parking and calmer water conditions.

Reservations/Permits: No reservations or permits are required to access the beach park.

Water Quality: The power plant discharges warm, non-toxic cooling water. Water quality is generally good, but after heavy rain, storm runoff can affect nearshore water. It is recommended to avoid swimming for at least 72 hours after heavy rainfall or if the water appears brown or murky.

Theft: The area is known for car break-ins and property theft. Visitors are strongly advised not to leave any valuables in their cars, especially visible ones, or to leave them at home.

Mermaid Caves: The Mermaid Caves, located nearby, can be explored only during calm conditions and low tide due to the risk of strong currents and waves unexpectedly filling the caves. Caution is essential.

While adjacent and sharing many characteristics, Kahe Point Beach Park is the southernmost area with the main discharge pipe and facilities, while Hawaiian Electric Beach Park (sometimes referred to as "Tracks Beach" further north) can have a gentler entry. Most serious snorkelers and divers head to Kahe Point for the best marine life around the pipe.
